Onion Girl
Picture Book Concept
Onion Girl has no friends. She lives in a town full of animals, and animals don’t particularly like onions. Determined to make a connection, Onion Girl seeks to help out the townsfolk in the dead of night in the hopes of learning how to be a friend.
Picture book dummy created in 2025. Gouache and colored pencil on cold-press watercolor paper.

Process
Early concept for Onion Girl character from 2024. I had doodled her a few times in my sketchbook and my husband liked her, so I made this painting.
Character study for Onion Girl prior to making the picture book dummy. Playing with poses and expressions, as well as imagining her life.
Spreads for Onion Girl drawn on tracing paper with pencil. I later used a lightbox to transfer these onto watercolor paper to make the spreads shown above.
